Sometimes it is easy to forget that many of our clients have been very well educated and had important cultural interests. Recently I did a program on visiting an art gallery and brought in art magazines on famous artists. This was very well received by 3 clients in particular who had visited galleries all over the world. I chose magazines rather than books which are usually too heavy to handle.
Ask your state gallery to send you out-dated copies of their monthly magazine for your facility and plan a program around them.

The value of singalong DVD’s

(No Ratings Yet) Loading ...Singalong DVD’s have the words and picutres on the screen. Singalong DVDs are valuable resourcse for activity staff working in particular with cients who have dementia.I have observed a resident who had lost their ability to speak was singing when the DVD was playing and really enjoying the experience. Having an entertainer or music therhapist visityour facility is very worthwhile. However a singalong DVD can fill the gaps on weekends or evenings. Recreation staff should make these available to nursing staff so they can use these resources when there is no recreation happening in the section.
